The William Penn volleyball team played tight with Graceland most of the night, but failed to score late in being swept 3-0 in non-conference action Tuesday.
William Penn (2-3) lost by scores of 17-25, 23-25, 23-25.
Lacey Taylor led the offense with nine kills, while Katie Rielly tacked on five winners.
Dayna Sammons recorded 23 assists and three aces, while Rielly was even better on the service line with five aces.
Defensively, Danielle Breeher dug a team-best 12 balls and Ana Gutch had two blocks (one solo, one assist).
William Penn hit .156 as a team.
The Lady Statesmen travel to Beloit, Wis., this weekend to play in the Beloit Buc Blast Tournament. On Friday, William Penn meets Presentation (S.D.) at 6:30 p.m. and Milwaukee School of Engineering at 8:30 p.m. On Saturday, the squad takes on Macalester (Minn.) at noon and Hamline (Minn.) at 2 p.m.
