OSKALOOSA —
The William Penn men’s soccer squad had a disappointing beginning to its 2012 campaign with a 3-0 loss to Concordia (Neb.) Friday night.
William Penn (0-1) fell behind early with a goal in the first 76 seconds and could never recover. The Bulldogs (1-0) only held a 12-5 edge in shots, but were efficient with their opportunities, including getting one more first-half goal at 17:38.
Concordia then tacked on its final score at 53:17 on an own goal as Joshua Jacobs misdirected a header into the Statesmen net. Jacobs was his team’s top offensive threat with two shots.
The contest was quite physical with seven yellow cards being issued by the officials, including three to the Statesmen.
Mason Bandy posted five saves in the setback.
