SIOUX FALLS, S.D. —
Valinn McReynolds re-entered the world of intercollegiate cross country after a five-year absence and immediately returned to her former glory at the season-opening Augustana Twilight Invitational Friday.
On a three-mile course lit by soccer field lights and glow sticks, McReynolds was 42nd out of 114 runners in a time of 19:17.70. McReynolds, now enrolled in the Master’s of Business Leadership program at William Penn, last ran cross country in college in 2007.
Rosemary Bailey), in 21:04.60, and Sade Myers, in 21:27.68, were 92nd and 96th, respectively. Alexis Kauzlarich was the final Lady Statesmen runner to finish, taking 110th at 23:27.84.
“Considering this was a short week of practice for us, I thought we went out and competed well,” Penn coach Cody Ingold said. “Valinn led the ladies with an impressive early-season time and the other girls followed suit with some solid times as well. I was very pleased with tonight’s results.”
Runa Falch of the host Vikings won the event by over 16 seconds in a time of 16:26.91. No team scores were kept at the meet.
William Penn travels to Grinnell next Saturday to compete in the Grinnell Les Duke Invitational.
