NEW SHARON —
North Mahaska may not play in the toughest Class A district in the state, but you would have a hard time convincing the Warhawks of the fact. They hosted BGM in a homecoming contest and gave up 42 first half points in a 56-0 loss.
BGM (4-2, 3-1) provided a speedy offense and aggressive defense to throttle the Warhawks in every statistical category. BGM limited North Mahaska to one first down and 38 yards in offense. The only category North Mahaska beat the Bears in was penalties. BGM racked up 100 yards in penalties while North Mahaska was flagged twice for 10 yards.
BGM took the opening possession and in four plays moved the ball 63 yards down the field for the lead. On North Mahaska’s first possession the Warhawks moved the ball just 20 yards, aided by a 15-yard penalty for their only earned first down.
“We just got beat,” said NM Coach Steve Ehret. “They are a good football team.”
BGM scored on every possession but two in the first half as they accumulated 420 yards in the first half of the game and built a 42-0 lead.
Karson Stodghill led the North Mahaska running game with 29 yards on nine carries. Beau Freeborn was 3-for-9 passing for only nine yards and threw two interceptions. Freeborn also led the defense with nine tackles. Gage Simmons had seven, and A.J. Hibler, Taylor Legvold and Trey Rutledge had six each.
North Mahaska (1-6, 1-3) will be on the road for their next two contests before closing out the season at home against Southeast Warren. The Warhawks face Pleasantville on Friday.
