The Lady Statesmen cross country team got an idea of what the league championship will look like as it competed at the St. Ambrose Fighting Bee Classic Saturday.
William Penn placed ninth out of 10 teams with 228 points, while Augustana (Ill.) won the team title with 31 points.
The Crow Creek Park course will be the site of November’s Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships. Fellow MCC programs St. Ambrose (2nd), Mount Mercy (3rd), Grand View (4th), and Clarke (5th) were also in the field.
Augustana’s Jessica Bacon won the 5K race with a time of 19:18. Valinn McReynolds placed 15th out of 108 runners with a personal-best time of 19:55. Her time is the fourth best in school history.
Sade Myers, in 81st at 22:52, and Rosemary Bailey, in 89th at 23:35, were next for the Lady Statesmen. Morgan Evans broke into the top 100 as well (94th, 24:55).
Orielle Thomas was 102nd at 26:19, while Sam Abens was 104th at 31:28. Arielle McClellan, in 105th at 32:23, Brittany May, in 106th at 32:29, and Jesse Kreuser, in 107th at 32:32, rounded out the team.
William Penn takes a week off before traveling to St. Louis, Mo., on Oct. 20 to compete in the St. Louis Pharmacy Classic.
