Mahaska United continued their dominance on the soccer pitch by going undefeated at the Fall Academy Cup last weeknd.
Mahaska United was one of 20 teams competing in the u10 division. Mahaska United was the only rec division team attending as all others were level 1 Academy teams.
Mahaska United allowed just three goals in the tournament, beating the Ankeny Rush 13-1, SSSC Milan 7-0, Urbandale 9-1, and in the final, Johnston 6-1.
It was the second straight year the team went undefeated at the tournament.
Mahaska United led the tournament in most goals scored and fewest goals allowed with a solid defensive team effort lead by outstanding play from centerback Carson Breon and goalkeeper Landon Hunolt.
With the leadership of team captains Ethan Olivas and Isaac Semini, Mahaska United outscored their opponents 35-3.
The next step for u10 Academy teams is to enter the u11 age bracket in the Iowa Premier Soccer League. The IPSL are level one players from clubs statewide.
Coach Loren Lammers said Mahaska United’s goal is to enter Division one level play in the Iowa Premier Soccer League in the fall of 2013 and host teams from around the state at the Lacey Complex for the home matches.
Mahaska United’s record so far this year is 13-0 and have scored 190 goals while allowing only 7.
Next matches are Saturday 10-6 at the Lacey Complex, hosting Fairfield and Washington.
The next tournament is the Kohls Fall Cup, held at West Des Moines the weekend of Oct 13-14. It’s a rec division tournament.
Mahaska United went undefeated in the Spring Kohls Cup held in Ames this past June.
