SWING VBC 14U teams do well at Mount Pleasant
MOUNT PLEASANT — The 14U Navy and White teams from the Southeast Iowa SWING Volleyball Club travelled to Mount Pleasant Jan. 24 for a 10-team tournament.
The Navy team brought home a first-place finish and the White team placed fourth in tits first tournament of the season.
The 14U Navy team played BVC Aces in its first match of the day, winning 21-6 and 21-19. Next up was Riders Navy, which SWING Navy defeated 21-13 and 21-9. The third team in pool play for Navy was Fairfield Attack. Navy won both sets over Attack, 21-16 and 21-17. Finally, they played the Cruisers 1 from Burlington. SWING Navy won the first set 21-17, and lost the second set 21-13. That gave SWING Navy the second-place finish in pool play and advanced them to the playoffs.
14U White started pool play with Top Dog Blue from Iowa City. White lost both sets with Top Dog, with scores of 21-8 and 21-15. Next for SWING White was TVC. White split the match with TVC, losing the first set 22-20 and winning the second set 21-12. SWING White’s next opponent was Mt. Pleasant Rush. White lost the first set 21-18, but came back to win the second set easily with a score of 21-12. For their final pool play match, SWING White played Cruisers 2 from Burlington. They lost the first set 21-9 and won the second set 21-18. This gave them a third place finish in their pool and advanced the White team into the playoffs as well.
SWING White was paired with Fairfield Attack for the first round of playoffs. White split with Attack, winning 25-11 and losing 25-18, sending them to the third set. White won that set 15-11 and the match to make it to the consolation championship match with TVC for third-fourth place. After a long day of hard matches, White lost both sets to TVC. This landed SWING White with a fourth place finish in their first tournament.
SWING Navy played Top Dog Blue (Iowa City) in the first round of playoffs. Navy won the first set 25-18, but Top Dog came back to win the second set 25-16 forcing the third set. Navy came out on top of that set 15-13. The win put Navy in the Championship game with Burlington Cruisers 2. Navy won both sets by a close margin 25-23 and 25-21. The win gave them the first place finish for the day.
