EDDYVILLE —
The National Dragster Challenge highlighted the weekend of racing at Eddyville Raceway Park on Saturday as NHRA Wallys was given out to all the winners.
Mother Nature tried to stop the racing with a few sprinkles and hold time to dry the track, but the main rain missed and races were able to be completed.
In the Pro Bike class, Tom Klemme from Davenport went against Alan Fawcett from Oskaloosa. Fawcett had the better reaction time, cutting a .001 against Klemme, but at the finish line, Klemme ran closer to his dial-in and claimed the win.
Pro class saw two familiar racers as Wayne Briggs Sr. from Wever went against Mike Wymore from Oskaloosa. Both drivers had almost identical dial-ins, and Wymore had the advantage on the starting line, but at the finish line, Wymore went too fast by .0048 giving the win to Briggs Sr.
Wymore had a great weekend of racing as he made it to the final again on Sunday going against Bryon Kinne from Canton, Ill. Wymore ran right on his dial-in, but a slower reaction time was enough for Kinne to get the win.
The Briggs family wasn’t done for the day as grandson Wayne Briggs III from Danville went agianst Griffin Rider from Lawson, Mo., in the Jr. Dragster Consi class. Briggs had the better reaction time and forced Rider to break out trying to catch him and claimed the win.
Jr. Dragster class had Chase VanSant from Pella going agianst Tucker Kanselaar from Pleasantville. It was a heads-up race as both racers had the same dial-in. VanSant ran closer to his dial-in and had the better reaction time to claim the win. VanSant also won the run-off against Briggs III.
Jared Micetich from Monroe had a busy weekend making two finals. On Saturday, he faced off agaisnst Austin Sharpe from Omaha, Neb., for the Top Dragster class. Micetich took the win with a better reaction time then he went against Gene Crow from Centralia, Mo., who won the Top Sportsman side and the race was over on the starting line as Crow left too soon giving the win to Micetich.
Sunday saw Micetich make the finals of the Super Pro class going against Stan Livingston from Des Moines. Micetich had the better reaction time and ran closer to his dial-in to claim the win.
Kody Vogel from Bettendorf went against Tracy Donald out of Colfax in the Sportsman class. Vogel ran right on his dial-in and with a better reaction time to claim the win and the Wally.
Bruce Williamson from Columbia made the finals in the Super Pro class on Saturday going against Al Enderson from Cedar Falls. Enderson had the better reaction time, but at the finish line, it was a double breakout with Williamson breaking out the least to claim the win and getting the Wally.
This weekend will be test-tune on Friday night plus Midnight Madness and and change for Saturday as the fun day has been cancelled and the track will be closed. The track will also be closed the following weekend as the Div 5 NHRA ET Finals will be going on at Topeka, Kan.
