OSKALOOSA —
The William Penn men’s soccer team came out on the wrong side of a tight matchup, falling 1-0 to Purdue Calumet (Ind.) in non-conference play Sunday.
The Statesmen (1-3) matched the Peregrines (1-1) with 15 shots apiece, but were unable to find the back of the net.
Meanwhile, Purdue Calumet finally ended the scoreless tie in the 65th minute when Papa Otoo scored off a pass from Hassan Al-Salem.
The Statesmen worked hard late to find the equalizer, but to no avail. Luis Islas led Penn with four shots, while Mason Bandy tallied six saves in the loss.
William Penn stays in Oskaloosa to host the William Penn Classic next weekend. The Statesmen first play Mount Marty (S.D.) Friday at 8 p.m. before taking on Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) Sunday at 2 p.m.
