OSKALOOSA — Modern Floor Covering and Sears share a building on Highway 432 on the west side of Oskaloosa. Both businesses are also victims of crime.
At approximately 7:30 Tuesday morning, a glass door on the east side of Modern Floor Covering was found broken. Their cash register had been raided and nothing was stolen, said Modern Floor owner Dennis Bryan.
Sears was not as fortunate, Bryan noted.
Entry was also made into Sears and an unknown amount of items were stolen, said Bryan. Bryan, who also owns the building that houses the two businesses, said an inventory was being done at Sears throughout the day Tuesday.
Oskaloosa Police Chief John “Jake” McGee said once this inventory is completed, a loss estimate for Sears can be made.
Bryan said he was understandably angered after learning of the break-in.
“I was thoroughly disgusted,” said Bryan in a Herald interview Tuesday morning.
For now, it can be said the break-in occurred some time between Monday night and Tuesday morning just before Modern Floor was to open at 8. A plowing of the parking lot shared by the two businesses was completed 11 p.m. Monday, said Bryan.
Sears remained closed throughout Tuesday, while Modern Floor was able to partially reopen later in the day. Both businesses are expected to be open today.
An investigation into the break-in is ongoing.
